Sample cover letter for Internship position at Immigration Law Firm
Intern
GOT THE JOB? Yes
My name is Ann Summers and I am a second year student at Charlotte School of
Law. I am writing to apply for the position of legal intern at your organization in Nashville,
Tennessee between July and December of 2016. I would welcome an opportunity to intern at
your office due to my strong commitment to serving underrepresented communities and
immigration law.
I have been grateful for a number of opportunities to develop practical skills in
immigration law. In the past year I have spent the past year working specifically on
asylum and refugee cases with clients from all over the globe in both a firm and legal
clinic setting. These opportunities have helped me develop an understanding of the
necessity of good communication and attention to detail, as well as the necessary skillset
to contribute in a setting like your organization.
As the daughter of a Filipina immigrant I have been immersed in the experiences and
hardships of the immigrant community since a young. Because of that experience, I
began to delve into international nonprofit work in college, where I studied in
International Relations and provided a senior thesis on the effects of human trafficking in
third world countries, where communities are most vulnerable. Additionally, I worked as
volunteer coordinator for a medical nonprofit that served impoverished people in rural
villages abroad and took a course on intercultural communication at a university in
Shanghai, China to learn how to become a better communicator with people from all
around the globe.
I believe my past experiences, leadership ability, and academic background have
provided me a strong toolset that will enable me to contribute to your organization as a
legal intern.
I have enclosed my resume. If you have further questions for me, please feel free to
contact me by e-mail at [email protected] or by phone at no. I look
forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely,
Ann Summers
