Sample cover letter for Full Time position at Shell

POSITION:

Graduate Programme

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing to apply for a position under the 2016 Employment Opportunities of the Shell Graduate Programme. As a Master’s graduate in Hydrogeology and Environmental Geoscience with over two years of experience in consulting and research, I believe you will find me a fitting candidate.

Working at Shell has always been a dream of mine. Consistently ranked as best employer to being a global leader in the energy industry, this alone will excite any hopeful applicants. One initiative that has drawn my interest to Shell is your collaborative efforts in furthering the technologies in carbon capture storage (CCS). Likewise, the environmental initiative of Project Better World is another great inspiration.

As a professional, my main expertise has to be on Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs) with a focus on field safety and technical writing; having worked closely with clients from the energy and chemical industries. Therefore, I believe my skill sets would also best fit roles in the geophysics and environmental engineering division. In terms of leadership and teamwork exposures, I have served in a Reserve Naval Officer programme (3 years part-time) and have held key positions in my school’s Leo club and Scout unit.

From a career standpoint, I have been acknowledged for my contributions whereby proposed ideas have led to savings in terms of cost and time. One such example was during a team meeting in which the company’s server system was to be separated from the equipment room and the accepted idea was to build a new room for it. I however, suggested getting a server rack instead which was later considered and adopted. I think solving problems be it a trivial matter should never be overlooked. I also believe in forging a career path where integrity and sustainability are highly valued.

I look forward to discussing further opportunities with you.

Yours sincerely,
