Project Stratobear is an upper atmospheric research experiment involving the micro-organism the Tardigrade. The project involved the construction and launch of an upper atmospheric probe designed to expose the micro-organism payload to various hostile climate conditions including radiation, temperature, lack of oxygen, and high/low pressure.
My role as Engineering Team Leader involved:
-The original development of the Project Stratobear proposal which involved creating approval board documents, project outlines, and project scope documents.
-Development of the initial fund raising campaign to secure ample for all project aspects. Fundraising involved social media marketing and investor meetings.
-Development, construction, and testing of the upper atmospheric vessel Stratoprobe One.
-Project concluded with the successful launch and recovery of Stratoprobe One.
Stratoprobe One Accomplishments:
-The vessel accomplished all specifications originally outlined.
-The vessel obtained a maximum altitude of 98,000 feet and exposed the Tardigrade organism to various atmospheric conditions.
-All data gathered by the probe was sent to various Tardigrade researchers.
