‘Painting with a Purpose’ is a macro social work intervention directed towards the client system of 312 students at Eagle Hall Primary School in St. Michael, Barbados. ‘Painting with a Purpose’ is designed to enhance social cohesion and community involvement with the client system through the process of a beautification of Eagle Hall Primary School on April 11, 2015. This process of beautification will serve as a networking event to provide those in the community at risk with resources to mediate factors inhibiting full participation. Furthermore those in the community will participate in a shared experience in which pride for the school is enhanced with the objectives of community empowerment. The development of the project includes the stages of Generalist Social Work Practice (engagement, assessment, planning, intervention, evaluation, and termination) founded within Anti-Oppressive Practice. The intervention of ‘Painting with a Purpose’ is established though Rothman’s (2008) Community Practice and Conceptual Foundation of Locality Development. Further theoretic frameworks providing guidance to the program include Social Capital Theory (Network Theory), Systems Theory, Maslow’s hierarchy of Needs, Ecological Model, Asset-Based Community Development, and Fullan’s Continuation Guidelines.
