I work in an environmental microbiology lab on the campus of the University of Georgia. In Fall of 2015, I worked mostly with water samples from the Florida Keys, studying the effects of iron on the population dynamics of heterotrophic bacteria and viruses. I filtered and stained the water samples, and then enumerated the bacteria and virus-like particles via epifluorescence microscopy.
This semester, spring of 2016, I will continue to study these the effects of iron on these microorganisms as well as research pathogenic diseases of Elkhorn coral reefs.
