There are several studies showing that the Asian community may be more sensitive to certain chemicals and environmental factors compared to other genetic groups due to having a thinner stratum corneum (outermost layer of the epidermis). An increased amount of adverse skin reactions to certain weather conditions and cosmetic ingredients have been well documented. Harsh chemicals (like retinol), sun exposure and other factors can lead to irritation, redness, easy scarring, chronic acne and other skin conditions.

A few examples of situations that may create or exacerbate sensitive skin issues could be seasonal change, aesthetic or cosmetic treatments, sleep problems and hormone or mood imbalances. This can be incredibly frustrating, embarrassing and uncomfortable, or even painful.

We want to know what’s next in cosmetic skincare that will specifically address skin sensitivity within the Asian community!
