How to make Packaging more delightful for an online ordered Birthday Gift?

More and more, we are ordering gifts online and have them shipped directly to their recipients. However, there's got to be something more exciting than a plain brown cardboard box, a cinched gift sack, or a computer generated note.
We believe digitally-enabled packaging features could help add some much-needed delight to the gift opening experience, through surprising, personalizing, and/or adding some fun to the package!
Deliverables
Propose a way senders can customize Packaging for online Birthday Gifts, that will impress the recipient. In your response, be sure to include the following 4 items:
- Describe your idea in detail. Provide visual illustrations.
- How could the sender personalize it during online ordering?
- What technology is needed to make this possible? How does it work? Who offers this technology?
- How could the recipient interact with the package and the gift giver?
CRITERIA: We're especially interested in new and emerging technology.
