We see new food-related trends emerge every year, whether it's a new eating style (think of the paleo diet or whole 30 trends), or key ingredients and flavor categories taking center stage (for example, the rising popularity of probiotics, algae becoming more mainstream, or the prevalence of spices and flavors from the Middle East or other regions around the world). It's important that we keep a pulse on upcoming food trends so we can offer products that will get people excited and support their culinary preferences!
We want you to identify a food-related trend that you predict will be up and coming in the next year or a trend that may be happening currently but you expect will still be relevant in the next year or more. Then, we want you to propose a new product idea that could be offered in food stores to support or fit with that trend. Specifically, answer the following:
- What trend are you choosing for your new food product idea? We are open to trends that relate to eating styles (vegan, vegetarian, paleo, whole 30, keto, low sugar, etc.) or trends that are driven by specific flavors or ingredients (local and regional flavors, globally-inspired foods and ingredients, plant-based foods, etc.).
- What is your new food product idea to support the trend you've identified in deliverable 1? Your idea should be something that can be sold in grocery stores (e.g. food item, ingredient, or supplement) but is not currently available to consumers today.
Avoid: We are not interested in ideas for appliances, food prep tools, etc. Your idea should be something edible.
