Pickup trucks are the best-selling vehicles in the United States as a whole and in the majority of the states individually. These trucks have always been viewed and marketed as rugged and tough vehicles, often used for hauling and to carry goods. But have you looked at a pickup truck lately? They are big, stylish, powerful.

On top of the ability to haul trailers and carry loads in the truck bed, pickup truck buyers like amenities, infotainment systems, and the room and comfort offered in extended cab pickups, plus the versatility to use it for work and as a family vehicle.

The auto industry is evolving, electric cars adoption is thriving, personal mobility vehicles (bikes, scooters) are filling the streets, autonomy will be standard in a few years, and services such as Uber and Lyft are redefining the way we move.

Pickup trucks need to evolve at the same pace as the rest of the mobility industry. We want your help understanding how pickups would evolve and look like in 2040.

Deliverables

Help us imagine the future of pickup trucks in the future. Specifically, answer the following questions:

  2. Describe what the future of pickup trucks will look like, taking into account the new trends in automotive innovation discussed above. Explain the concept and reasoning behind your design choices. How will the truck and its features be used? How do they meet the consumer needs of the future?
  3. Submit a visual that illustrates your design. The quality of the illustration doesn't matter--what we care about is getting a clear understanding of your ideas. It can be a drawing, sketch, or rendering, but it should be an original, solver-created concept that clearly shows your ideas.
