Not only are the advances in robotics and smart machines more remarkable than ever before, the rate at which these advances are occurring is faster than ever. While Smart Agents and Artificial Intelligence haven't found their way into our homes and offices just yet, task oriented robots like Roomba are paving the way for these technologies to enter the market.
There are an infinite number of applications for smart machines and robots to improve everyday life. Imagine a task at home or in the office that wastes your time, your energy or your money. Suggest a robot that can eliminate these wastes. Perhaps, a robot that opens doors for you or organizes your cabinets? A robot that picks up after you or makes your bed? How about a smart machine that takes your order, cooks your food and delivers your meal to the table? What will be the best application for these new technologies?
Propose a new smart machine or robot that will meet a need of consumers in their home or office.
Your submission must include:
1. A written description of your smart machine or robot
2. An explanation of how the machine will work and why it is the best use of current technologies to meet modern consumer's needs
3. (optional but strongly encouraged) A drawing, sketch, or mockup of your proposal
HP is already one of the world’s largest suppliers of robots. Our printing robots (printers!) can be found in most homes and offices around the world. Printers consist of many of the same subsystems found in robots: precision mechanisms using motors and encoders, integrated electronics for processing and controlling the mechanisms, wired and wireless communications to interface with other devices. InkJet printers have the additional capability of precise liquid management and delivery.
As a creative starting point, how might you reconfigure the components of a desktop printer for a robot? Extra credit for proposals that can creatively incorporate liquids.
