Welcome University of Phoenix Students and Alumni!

As an Executive Team Leader in Training at Target you combine business, leadership, and people skills every day. Two of your biggest responsibilities are to maintain budget controls within the store and to manage customer relations. You have to solve problems, analyze data, and make big decisions on a frequent basis.

Note: 10 challenge participants will be selected for job interviews for the Executive Team Leader in Training role (sources show an annual salary avg. between ~$40k - 75k).

Deliverables

Part 1 - Financial Literacy: Attached is an excel file with income statements for two different hypothetical Target stores. Compare and contrast the two locations by looking for strengths and weaknesses. Then submit answers to the following:

1. What do you think is keeping the first store (#44093) from performing better?

2. How would you improve the performance of the first store?

3. What is the second store (#82519) doing well?

4. What would you change at the second store to improve performance?

Part 2 - Leadership: We’re also interested in learning about your leadership style. Imagine you encounter an angry customer at checkout, yelling about a discount they saw on a particular item that didn’t show up on the receipt. The cashier isn’t finding the discount in the system. Write 3-5 sentences about how you would resolve this issue and why you chose this approach.

Submissions will be graded on the following criteria:
