Sample cover letter for Internship position at A bloop bloop

POSITION:

Graduate

Dear Human Resources Team / Hiring Manager,

I am a final year BSc (Hons) Banking and Finance undergraduate, expecting to graduate with a 1:1 (First) as I have achieved a 1:1 in all of my prior modules, including: Portfolio Analysis, Financial Modeling and Corporate Finance, demonstrating my excellent academic ability.

Beyond academics, I have successfully researched investment products, prepared presentations, volunteered for charities and developed client relationships during my 2 years of undergraduate study and in my year as a financial accounting assistant intern at a global connector solutions company. My considerable achievements as an intern include being solely responsible for the Operating Expense (OPEX) budgets, valued at upwards of $1m, for the UK entity of the Energy division of the firm and hosting meetings with non-finance managers on various sites to discuss the budget forecasts for the fiscal year. Adding to this, I also improved the OPEX budget reporting process at the firm through the use of VBA, and managed to create a standardized, automated process on my own initiative. I also have experience at Barclays Bank as a placement student and The Hinckley and Rugby Building Society as a mortgage services assistant, both of which gave me a vital insight into the world of finance and the banking industry. The latter provided me with a real introduction and insight into the housing and real estate markets within the UK.

I am a goal-oriented professional with highly developed spreadsheet and analytical skills. Going back to my previous role, I dealt with a number of budgeting and forecasting programs within Excel such as BPC (Business Planning and Consolidation). By hosting monthly meetings with senior managers, I have honed my communication and event management skills, and developed my interpersonal skills as well. Furthermore, I am proficient with computer applications including Reuters, Bloomberg, SAP, FIS edc, Word and Powerpoint. Through my subscription to the Financial Times, I always keep on top of the global financial markets as well as the general business news, in order to remain commercially aware.

I would welcome the opportunity for an interview to further discuss my suitability for this position.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Yours sincerely

Cameron Nuttall
