Sample cover letter for Internship position at APT

POSITION:

Associate Product Manager

Dear Hiring Manager,

I am writing to express interest in the summer internship position as an Associate Product Manager at APT. I am currently a junior pursuing a B.S. in Biomedical Engineering and a minor in Computer Science and in the process of finding the right internship that could provide me with an opportunity to learn, have increased responsibilities, to contribute, and later be recognized. I had the pleasure of attending APT’s information session, where I learned about this position of an Associate Product Manager. As an engineer who is interested in doing consulting, this position convinced me to apply because it fulfills the analytical side of engineering, while having a short turn around on projects and a quick, direct impact on companies and people’s lives.

My experience with this type of work occurred in my Systems Optimization class, where we looked at analytical methods to solve and optimize different systems. Individually, we were asked to come up with a system to solve and I chose to try to solve a parking problem in Miami’s Art Deco District. As I formulated the problem, it became apparent that the tools to solve this dynamic problem were out of the scope of this class. Therefore, I had to simplify the system into smaller problems and solved one of the smaller problems using a simplex algorithm. This project allowed me to be creative and solve a real world problem that I have encountered and the entire experience was very gratifying. I want to further refine my analytical skills and learn more ways to solve complex problems and I believe an internship at APT can help me do so.

Another project that has been unique to my college experience was a design challenge in one of my electrical engineering class. This design challenge made us apply engineering principles to solve a complex course with robots. As part of a twelve-person team, we had to collaborate and coordinate to finish the challenge. A variety of roadblocks and limitations forced our team over a two-month process to tweak and reevaluate designs in order to finish the challenge correctly and promptly. This project challenged me to think outside the box, be creative and thoughtful of details, and communicate effectively with team members, a skill that should prove valuable in a position such as Associate Product Manager.

I wholeheartedly believe that an internship at APT will allow me to grow and hone my analytical, interpersonal, and problem solving skills for the career that lies ahead of me. Thank you for your consideration and I look forward to the opportunity of an interview with APT.

Sincerely,

Interviewee
