Sample cover letter for Internship position at American express

POSITION:

analyist

I am interested in joining American Express as an Analyst for Customer Experience and Insights, and I am confident that my technical and leadership skills will help customers do more and achieve more.

My coursework at Wharton has helped me develop a data analytics mindset. I have learned how to extract meaning from and interpret data through tools such as R, SPSS, VBA and now SQL this semester. My favorite course taught me how to build probability models to understand consumer behavior. Let’s say, for example, we have 1,000 customers acquired in one year and we want to model future retention for this group. If we assume that each individual has a constant probability of churning, and those probabilities are different for each customer and vary according to a prior distribution, we can build a powerful predictive model with only a few parameters. This model will have far greater predictive capability than any regression and tells a much simpler story. Other coursework has taught me how to design experiments, carry out cluster analysis and segmentation, and apply mathematical models to real world problems.

I am very interested in working for American Express and I believe my technical and leadership skills are a terrific fit for the Analyst position. I welcome the opportunity to meet with you for an interview.
