Sample cover letter for Internship position at Antarctica NGO

I am writing to express my interest in an internship in your office this summer. As you know, I am a current freshman at Colby College. I am currently looking for opportunities to continue my education throughout the summer, and I think an internship in your office would allow me to learn more about NGOs, an aspect of government that I do not have much experience with. Even though I just recently began researching the ASOC's work, it is clear that you are a leader, and a strong voice for the responsible administration of Antartica.

­A brief resume is enclosed that will exhibit my relevant experience and strong academic record. I think my ability to deeply research specific policy issues, a skill that was very important during my internship in, will prove especially applicable. I am excited about the possibility of learning more about the intricacies of Antartica through first hand experience. My summer schedule is flexible. I will be back from school by May 27 and will be in the Washington, DC area until August 29. I am aware that the internship is unpaid.
