Sample cover letter for Full Time position at BlackRock

POSITION:

Portfolio Management Team

Dear BlackRock HR,

My name is ____________, and I am applying for the portfolio management assistant role in your Hong Kong Portfolio Management Team. I currently work for a private placements agent in Wan Chai, where I am involved with our firm’s sell-side on debt and equity financing projects, preparing valuation analysis and client presentations, conduct project appraisal and due diligence.

I have applied to your firm for a number of reasons; for one, I meet the basic requirements for the role, such as CFA Level I and am scheduled to take Level II in June, have good knowledge of the equity markets, strong VBA and macro writing experience and strong project management experience. Furthermore, I feel that Fundamental Equities’ reliance more on in-depth fundamental analysis rather then quantitative metrics both suits my investment style personally, and aligns more with my knowledge and experience. More importantly, I applied for the role as I see it as a perfect combination of my previous project and correspondence heavy client facing experience, and my markets knowledge and passion with a markets facing role.

My CV hopefully demonstrates that I have a track record of adding value to my firm in my fundraising work, but I have also added value in ways not detailed on my CV, such as through excel macros I have written for our wealth management department (that I can provide copies of if requested), the WM’s quarterly and weekly market outlooks and daily market data articles which write, even my having rewritten our outdated company website from scratch. I would like to add that sort of drive and value to BlackRock’s Portfolio Management team.

Were I to land the role, I believe BlackRock would be a firm that would encourage me to pursue CFA Level III and continue towards CFA certification, and a firm where I could get truly great Asian markets exposure with one of the leading firms in the industry.

I hope you agree that my background would be a good fit for the role, and that there are areas where I can add value to BlackRock and the PMA team. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Regards,

x
