Sample cover letter for Internship position at CWIHP

POSITION:

Research Intern

To Whom It May Concern,

Having spent most of my life learning from an American curriculum while living in China, I understand parts of both countries’ perspectives on the Cold War. The disparities between these two perspectives is what motivated me to apply for a summer internship at CWIHP, where both the events and historiography of the Cold War are studied. Currently, I am a sophomore pursuing majors in history and public policy studies at __________, and would love to bring my research and communication skills to CWIHP.

My interdisciplinary academic background has given me experience with sources that would fit the CWIHP internship. I have, for example, used primary sources like Spruille Braden’s blue book on Argentina to understand American intervention in Latin America during the twentieth century. I have also read through monographs to piece together social landscapes as a public policy studies major. My familiarity with integrating diverse sources means that I will be comfortable as a CWIHP intern efficiently working with all types of sources in the archives.

In addition, I am currently a writing consultant at ________’s Writing Studio. As a writing consultant, I work with writers – ranging from undergraduate students to the occasional professor – from all disciplines to help them construct arguments and translate their thoughts into effective words that clearly convey their intent. I am also occasionally responsible for working with my mentor group to lead staff meetings. I would love to work with the staff, fellows, and scholars at CWIHP to communicate both their academic research and their ideas on conferences and general operations.

As you can see, I will be able to work both with and without other people at CWIHP, and can be useful in a multitude of areas. I am excited to learn more about the internship, and hope to have a chance to speak with you about the skills that I can bring to CWIHP.

Sincerely,

Christine Huang
