Sample cover letter for Internship position at Citi

POSITION:

Sales and Trading

Dear hiring manager,

I am a third-year student in the Mathematics Program from the University of Waterloo and I would like to request your consideration for a summer internship position at your firm. I believe that my passion and curiosity for the capital markets as well as my background in quantitative mathematics makes me the ideal candidate for this position.

I have just finished an internship at xxx. Besides gaining valuable industries experiences while working alongside the traders to learn about the various trading assets, I was able to contribute to the firm by streamlining the trading process. Some of my responsibilities were:

  • Produced P&L and risk factors reports for Equities Traders
  • Developed financial models used for risk analytics of derivative products

From my internship, I became very comfortable with Bloomberg Terminal and also learned how to organize complex data in a logical and meaningful manner using Excel VBA. Furthermore, as someone with relatively little capital market experience prior to my internship, I demonstrated to my colleagues that I can learn quickly and produce quality work, which I will continue to do so in my next internship.

I am looking to apply my analytical and quantitative skills, along with my commitment to constant improvement to an internship opportunity where I can immediately contribute. I have attached my resume and would greatly appreciate an interview to further discuss my qualifications. Thank you for taking the time to read this and I look forward to hearing back from you.

Sincerely,
