Sample cover letter for Internship position at Citigroup

POSITION:

Corporate banking analyst

I am a Mechanical Engineering undergraduate at the and I am writing to apply for a summer analyst position in Corporate Banking.

As an undergraduate, I have been involved in various academic and extracurricular activities where I have developed skills that have prepared me for such roles. For instance, I have been involved in a group project with people from different backgrounds where I coordinated with a team to build a virtual animal barn in Uganda. I was the initial team leader and created the blueprint to follow. It involved setting up meetings, brainstorming with the team, allocating tasks and deciding on the final course of action. The project was completed successfully and as a result, I learned the basics of project and risk management.

Moreover, I have been involved in another group project where I constructed part of an engineering product. It involved assembling the different parts, and presenting the product to an audience. This required me to conduct thorough analysis and research to meet the design standards and mange my time properly in order to assemble the product before the deadline. I have also worked as a charity fundraiser where I improved my soft skills as I talked to people all over the city.

I want to work at Citi because I feel that at one of the world’s biggest global bank, I would have the best opportunity to gain a broad experience of finance. It is a bank that offers various mobility and mentoring programs and exposes an individual to different facets of the industry. The bank emphasizes diversity and employs people from different backgrounds. I want the opportunity to meet and learn from interesting people at the bank whilst offering my skills from engineering. According to a forum I read on Citi’s employees, Andreas Kristofferson, a corporate banking analyst, highlighted the interesting people and globalism as what he loves the most about the bank.

Furthermore, I want to work in corporate banking because I will have the chance to contribute to products and services with global impact. From capital markets to derivatives and structured products, I would be able to gain an invaluable understanding of global market trends and have the chance to see how the bank tends to the needs of its clients such as multinational corporations and financial institutions.

Thank you this wonderful opportunity. I look forward to hearing from you.
