Sample cover letter for Internship position at Columbia University

POSITION:

Research Assistant

GOT THE JOB? Yes

Dear Professor ,

I'm writing this mail to apply for the RA position advertised on the economics mailing list today. I'm a junior at Columbia College  studying Mathematics-Statistics and Economics. I'm hoping to go to graduate school to pursue a doctorate in economics in the future. I'm eager to gain quantitative economics research experience, and if given this opportunity, I will put in the time and effort required to be an efficient assistant.

I've taken Columbia's year-long higher-level statistics sequence and introductory econometrics class, and am currently taking Advanced Econometrics, Linear Regression Models (Statistics department course) & Introductory Python Programming. I'm excited by the idea of actually getting a chance to apply the skills I'm learning in these courses to analyze a dataset. I have previous research experience: I spent this summer as a research assistant  I enjoyed the experience, and would like to continue working in a research environment.

I've attached my resume to this email for your consideration.

Regards,
