I am writing in reference to the Adjunct Faculty (Adult Education) position posted on the Delgado website.I believe I am a good candidate for this job due to my past experiences in an academic setting, both teaching and assisting university level courses.I have experience as an Assistant Adjunct Professor teaching Introduction to International Development, a class of approximately 80 students ranging from freshman to senior levels.I was responsible for course content, lecture development, examinations and final reporting to the university.

This class encompassed several aspects of development such as economics, developmental history, environmental issues, and political structure.Students wrote five 10-page papers on a selected developing nation.Along with examinations throughout the semester, each student was required to turn in a 25-30 page term paper at the end of the semester.In this process I was able to guide them regarding their grammar and writing skills, as well as statistical analysis of economic indicators.

Reading, writing, and communication skills are strong points in my skill set.This was apparent by the vast improvements of students’ writing abilities, particularly freshmen.Each student would be required to give a brief presentation of his or her selected country with high expectations on clarity and appropriate research. I have also worked as a teaching assistant for my entire time in graduate school.Classes ranged from development studies to athletic center tutoring where I have many students who found the fast pace of athletics and academics to be difficult to balance.

I have always had a great working relationship with my students and will always put in the extra effort for any students who are trying to improve their skill sets and need extra council.I am fair but have expectations that all students can do well if they put in the work.I genuinely enjoy people, particularly in the academic setting.Having students of different educational backgrounds in the same class has always been present, no matter where you are teaching.It is important to discern where the middle is regarding who is in your section and teach them accordingly.This requires a lot of communication between the professor and the students.

Technology in the classroom is a very valuable tool.I have used PowerPoint with overhead projectors, mainly.I am computer literate and have no problem integrating a new technology into my classroom.I also worked through Tulane Blackboard where all assignments were submitted and returned to students.Their coursework materials were posted there as well as any announcements concerning our class calendar.
