Dear ______________________________________:

As a student in DePaul University’s College of Communication majoring in Journalism, I am focusing on writing and the media. After seeing your __________________ Internship posted in ____________________, I am eager to apply the research and writing skills I have gained to benefit your organization. I am especially interested in working with your company because it is _________________________________________________________________________.

Through coursework in both communication and literature, and after studying abroad in London this past semester, I have developed skills in written, oral, and multimedia expression—all critical to working in journalism. As the staff writer for the DePaulia Newspaper’s Arts and Life section, and as a Student Supervisor in the DePaul University library, I have strengthened both my written and editorial skills.

Through my various courses, I have strengthened my knowledge of basic techniques of news writing and have been encouraged to pursue a career in journalism by my professors. In addition, my varied work experiences have helped me become proficient in dealing with the public and working under pressure.

Enclosed are my resume and writing samples for your review. I am available to start work upon my return from London the week of December 21st. if you have any questions or need additional information, please contact me
