Sample cover letter for Full Time position at Duke Energy

POSITION:

Communications Consultant

Dear Hiring Professional,

It is with great enthusiasm that I submit my application for the position of Lead Communications Consultant (Executive Alignment & Messaging). As a young adult who has spent the past five years working in the capacities listed on the job site, I believe I have what it takes to be successful in this role

As you will see in my resume, I’ve built my career and skillset in a variety of roles, mostly in large companies and local organizations as well as an education from one of the top political science programs in the nation, where I not only served as an planner but also as a project gatekeeper, student, activist, and in some cases, consultant to student government committees. I not only thrive in an environment where I wear many hats, I find great joy in it.

At my current position at X, a nonpartisan nonprofit, maintaining a message is a critical aspect of position. Since we are dealing with policy change that affects the largest demographic of the state of X, we have to ensure that our message is on point in order to drive volunteer activism and economic change. Part of that role requires me to be a good public speaker, which although this role doesn’t call for me to give speeches, does allow me to use my skills to draft speeches for Duke Energy’s executives. Also, as a supervisor in my current role, I have to ensure that my direct reports’ messaging is consistent with that of the organization.

In addition to being flexible and responsive, I am creative and am detail oriented – I drew blueprints for multi-million dollar projects during my time at Siemens where an inch could mean disaster if not planned properly. In that role, I also maintain relationships and correspondence with over 100 Project Managers, 30 planners, and a few customers in certain circumstances, all of whom are located in all fifty states as well as a couple of territories. In that role, aligning the messages of the planning department and project management side of things was a critical aspect as it could take away from the value created by Siemens Healthcare.

I also believe my experience earning my bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of X provided me with the skillsets required for this position. One of the many aspects of the degree program was writing term papers that kept to the message of the class. While having to write these papers, I also had to make them engaging for the professors. The same goes for a couple of speeches I wrote while in school. I wanted to not only inform the speakers’ audience(s) but also keep them engaged so they could learn from what the speakers were saying.

In closing, I am thrilled at the possibility of being involved with Duke Energy and how it provides energy to hundreds of thousands if not millions of Americans in the southeastern region of the United States. I welcome the opportunity to meet with you and discuss the value I can bring to the company and how I can help the executives’ messages stay on track for what the needs of the company are. I appreciate your consideration and look forward to hearing from you.

With best regards,
