Sample cover letter for Internship position at East Texas Pump Jacks

POSITION:

Operations Inter

GOT THE JOB? Yes

Bottom line, I love everything about baseball; which is why I am applying for your Baseball Operations internship. My passion for baseball drove me to a Sports Administration major at the University of Louisville with the goal of working in professional baseball and I can think of no better place to start.

The first Minor League ball game I went to was the Augusta Green Jackets. I love minor league baseball because no other sport at any level draws the player, the organization and most importantly the fans together into “the game of baseball”. I love experiencing everything from the players warming up, the excitement in the faces of the crowd as they enter the park, the perfect combination of the brown infield dirt and the brilliant green of the grass, and the sound of the first pitch cracking against the bat, the 1 against 9, conversations with friends and the simple fact that it is not over until it is over. I love it all!

I am a perfect candidate to join the Pumpjack team because for 2 years I interned with the Louisville Lightning, a professional arena soccer team in Louisville, Kentucky, which was a start-up organization that ran mostly on the hard work of its interns. I wore many hats, or as other interns dubbed me: the jack of all trades. It was an amazing experience, I served as the team’s equipment manager, responsible for ensuring all player equipment was clean and serviceable; home and visitors’ locker rooms were prepped and ready for the players when they arrived and I traveled with the team. I also assisted in the set-up and break-down of the bleachers, setting out everything from tables used for ticket sales, concessions, vacuuming the field and yes I even did windows. As well as those responsibilities, I assisted with sponsorship, promotions, and liaison to away teams. Many weeks I worked approximately 30 to 40 hours with the team assisting in other ways scheduling practices, creating game day schedules for the entire staff, players, and referees while maintaining a full class load.

I would love the opportunity to discuss with you more about my first passion, my background, and your organization. I look forward to speaking with you soon.
