Sample cover letter for Full Time position at Edgeworth Economics

Dear Ms. X,

Edgeworth Economics caught my attention when Etihad Airways released a media statement based on the economic analysis by Dr. Johnson and Mr. Kheyfets. I was impressed the through the analysis of micro and macroeconomic data that Etihad and the big three US carriers were all better off because of Etihad provided competitive prices and consumer choice. I admired Edgeworth’s graceful approach in delivering upon its namesake in providing Pareto Optimality, and I am writing to apply for the Economic Consultant position at the DC office.

I am currently finishing my degree at Blue Mountain State in Quantitative Economics with a double minor in Math and History. My academic background has provided me with a strong foundation in economic analysis using quantitative methods, notably through STATA, as well as writing and research skills. In reading the article “Economic Analysis of Financial Institution Claims in Data Breach Class Actions” by Mr. Kheyfets and Mr. Milner, it was clear to me the creative econometric approach of identifying variables for damages. I used a similar approach by applying interdisciplinary thinking to quantitative methods in my regression analysis, and I believe this type of approach can allow me exceed as a team member at Edgeworth.

This past semester I competed in the national College Federal Bank Challenge, in which I learned the importance of clear communication in working with a team.. My goal was to compile and analyze monthly data, as it was released, and synthesized it within my team’s stance on monetary policy. We presented our argument to judges at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, and the whole experience felt very similar to providing consultation to clients.

My work experience this semester as an intern at XYZ Regulatory Consulting resulted in an increased familiarity with legal documents and the regulatory environment. Through this learning experience, I realized that I could sift through legal documents with relative ease given my background in history. Over the summer I interned at XYZ where I conducted financial benchmarking and cost/benefit analyses for college tuition payment systems. I presented my findings to staff members across departments and gained comfort in presenting to senior staff members.

With my background in quantitative economics, history, and relevant work experience, I am confident in exceeding expectations and building upon my knowledge as an Economic Consultant at Edgeworth Economics. I am sure both the firm and I will achieve Pareto Optimality, and I hope to further discuss the merits of the position in person. Thank you for your consideration and time.
