Sample cover letter for Internship position at Essar

POSITION:

Process Engineer

Dear Sir/ Madam,

Summer Internship 2015 – Essar

I am applying for an internship at Essar Oil and gas as it is my hope that i may ultimately

be made an offer to join the graduate programme if successful in my internship. I am in my

third year of study for an MEng degree in Chemical Engineering at The University of Manchester

and I love the idea of being presented, a variety of industry significant projects applying

game changing innovative technology that could have global impact on energy use.

I strongly identify with the company’s values and feel i would be well matched for this role

for several reason.

Essar Oil places strong emphasis on recruiting the most talented individuals and prides

itself on delivering excellence. I believe I have demonstrated excellence from a young age

by achieving the highest GCSE results in my high school, and the Peak milk award for the

2nd best maths student in the state when in college with overall grade of 288/300. I was

particularly impressed by the commissioning of the optimised Stanlow refinery 4 months

ahead of schedule delivering major improvements to gross margins and exceeding shareholder’s

expectations.

I consider myself creative, open minded and resourceful with opportunities available to me;

I demonstrated this in my previous voluntary job as a fundraiser which required not only

persistence but also strategic time management in approaching potential donors - “knock

as many doors as possible before tea time” was the motto of my team. Through this specific

mid-day shift, i earned top recruiter 3 months in a row and promoted to team leader

within 6 months at Home Fundraising ltd.

Working as a volunteer teacher in a local community centre for the Manchester Leadership

Programme allowed me to strongly develop my communication skills and taught me how

to present complex ideas in lay terms. My work as chair of a major design project developed

my leadership and empathy skills as I learnt to delegate tasks, design agendas for

meetings and improved my overall professionalism.

Lastly, my work as a Safety intern at Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation involved

writing and presenting highly technical and detailed reports of issues on site and how to

improve them. It greatly developed my technical rigour and ability to present my recommendations

to a senior leadership team confidently and assertively while embedding core

safety practices and a meticulous attitude to environmental regulations.

In my spare time I pride myself on maintaining a varied and interesting lifestyle which includes

keeping physically fit by playing basketball three times a week, regular swimming

and training sessions at the gym and long distance power walking on the occasional

weekend. I also enjoy keeping up with the news and sports and play in chess and table

tennis tournaments as often as I can.

I believe this puts me in a strong position to contribute to the long standing, well established

culture at Essar Oil and gas and greatly look forward to the opportunity to discuss

my skills and abilities with you in greater detail.

Yours Faithfully,

Daniel Okwuada
