Sample cover letter for Internship position at Evercore

POSITION:

Investment Banking

Dear Sir or Madam,

My name is …, and I am currently an MSc in Finance student at … Business School. I was recently introduced to your firm via …, analyst and decided to apply for the investment banking internship position you offer.

Having dedicated five years studying finance, I aspire to get into investment banking, which is the cornerstone of the financial industry. My goals are to be productive from the very first day, gain broad exposure, develop core skills and interact with charismatic and successful people. My greatest motivation, however, comes from a personal experience. A friend of mine, who works in …, a leading …(nationality) investment bank, has highlighted the results-driven approach in his work, the maturity required and the acute business sentiment he has developed working on deals for firms in different industries. That is exactly how I want to work as a professional.

The reasons why I want to join Evercore are its independency (sells only financial advice and doesn’t provide financing services, in contrast to bulge investment banks, establishing its unbiased approach towards its clients), global presence, sector experience and finally because of its selection of intellectually challenging and complex deals (like the DuPont- Dow Chemical merger and the acquisition of EMC by Dell). The Dell- EMC deal impressed me for its strategic brilliance, since the combined company now possesses around 30% of the storage markets, and delivers end to end technology solutions, directly competing with top players in the computer industry, like HP and IBM. Moreover, Evercore’s unique culture and flat organizational structure will give me the opportunity to be actively involved in deals, take high responsibility, learn from senior bankers and finally show my potential.

The primary attributes that make me a perfect fit for this role are high academic achievement (top 2% in my bachelor and top 9% in GMAT), technical knowledge about financial statements and company valuation models (specified modules in bachelor and master), as well as communicational and interpersonal skills (recruited 50+ members for the Investment and Finance club of my former University, and hosted 15 events). Furthermore, I consider my discipline and trustworthiness (selected amongst 150 soldiers by the Chief Commander to be responsible for the receipt and delivery of top classified military information) a differentiating factor between other candidates and me. Finally, I believe that my global perspective (left Greece to study in a multicultural environment in England) and my determination, drive and passion for succeeding (also fueled by the extremely unfavorable economic situation I experienced in Greece) are perfectly aligned with your company’s values.

I hope that the attached CV will provide further information regarding my relevant skills, experience and qualifications. I look forward to the opportunity to discuss these with you further shortly.

Yours sincerely,
