Sample cover letter for Internship position at FCAA

POSITION:

ANALYST

I am applying for this role because I am incredibly passionate about supporting families with children who are disabled or have a serious illness. Earlier this year I attended a talk by Dr Beek of the York Economics Forum in which she reported on the economic impact of family support teams referring specifically to the Rainbow Trust. This talk confirmed my interest in the Rainbow Trust, as it explained the cost benefit of having family support teams compared to the cost of extra NHS and social care services that the family may require if the Rainbow Trust support was not in place. This economic benefit coupled with the emotional and practical support offered to the families convinced me of the excellent work the Rainbow Trust do.

A fundraising role particularly appeals as it allows you to play an essential role in securing and managing corporate partnerships by researching potential new donors and organising events. I have taken part in many fundraising events through LSE Raising & Giving (RAG). One particularly successful event was a Charity ball we organised to raise £10,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support. I was responsible for sourcing corporate sponsors for the event who I asked to donate prizes for a charity auction taking place during the ball. I liaised with various companies, persuading them to take part by offering them their logos in the ball programme. I successfully secured 5 sponsors who donated fantastic prizes raising £1000 which was added to our overall total of £12,000 raised.

Throughout my studies in BSc Sociology at LSE, I have focused on important issues in contemporary society. This included recent debates and developments within social research of disability. My dissertation examined the global ascension of disability human rights in the context of the onset of global fiscal austerity for which I received a first class grade. My interest in disability issues and desire to support families inspired me to get involved with KEEN London, volunteering to coach disabled children in weekly sports and activities sessions. I have also supported the charity by recruiting 10 additional LSE volunteers by organising a stand at the fresher’s fair.

Outside of my studies and extra-curricular activities I have also taken on part-time work. In my role as administrator for LSE Accommodation Services I have developed my client service skills by routinely responding to enquiries by phone and email. I also established an access database to match students to vacant accommodation which has saved the team time and made the process more efficient. In addition, as an events assistant for Wonderful Events I advised clients on how to put on a successful event including suitable venue choices and catering options. I also produced event planning checklists for clients to make their lives easier.

I hope the above outline of my skills and experience shows that I am an excellent candidate for this role. I look forward to hearing from your shortly.

Yours sincerely,
