Sample cover letter for Internship position at Federal Reserve Bank

POSITION:

research assistant

Dear Randi Cavanaugh,

I have very broad research interest, including applied microeconomics, monetary policy, and household finance. During my undergraduate study, my study was mainly focused on sticky information and real business cycle theory. The first time I felt the pure joy of doing research was when I conducted my B.S. paper about DSGE model. Moreover, I had an experience of conducting research in mortgage-backed security(MBS), which also inspires me a lot thinking about risk management in bank and monetary policy.

As a first year Economics Master student, besides an analysis math course, I have taken Econometrics I (PhD level) class, Finance I (PhD level) and also audited the Financial Econometrics course. Through these good classes, I not only learned a lot of theoretical econometrics, but also developed proficient data analysis skills with Stata and MATLAB. In the class of Finance I, we have several projects related to the asset pricing and dynamic modeling, which primarily focused on verifying the classical models with the real data and simulating them using MATLAB. And I really enjoy exploring the functions of MATLAB to make better use of it. During this semester, I am taking Econometrics II(PhD level), Bayesian Statistics(PhD level), and Micro econometrics, which include theoretical micro economics analysis and more data analysis training with R, STATA and MATLAB.
