Sample cover letter for Internship position at Gensler

POSITION:

Intern

Dear Gensler,

Like your firm, I have roots in many parts of the world. I am half-French and half-Vietnamese, a citizen of Belgium, France, and the United States, and have lived in Europe, Texas, and on both coasts of the U.S. My diverse background is something I’ve always been proud of and I feel its influence in all aspects of my life, whether I’m deciding what to cook, what places I enjoy being in, or my designs. Having seen, I take a special interest in cities and how public spaces can be created there. My favorite kinds of spaces are public libraries and squares, where people come to gather to either be alone or with others. When it comes to my design process, it’s helped me be open to trying new things and to see the importance of having outside perspectives.

More about my design process:

It generally consists of diagramming, sketching, physical modeling, digital media, and even wood- or metal-working, but I avoid following a routine. I recognize that each project is different and requires a unique approach. To me, this is an invitation to explore my ideas with new mediums and techniques, and I’ve been able to find inspiration in everything from clay to resin casting to CNC routing.

Collaboration is another big part of my process. Even when I’m not working in a team, I welcome the input of others, regardless of whether their background is architecture-related or not, and find that each interaction brings unique perspective and insight to my design. Likewise, I love seeing what other people are up to and sharing my own point of view.

I admire Gensler’s ability to bring together professionals with such a wide variety of backgrounds and expertise to produce excellent work, and I think that my passion for innovative and collaborative design, along with my international perspective, makes me a good fit for Gensler. I hope that in the review of my application, you find that to be true as well.

Thank you for your consideration; I look forward to hearing from you.
