Sample cover letter for Internship position at Irwin Mitchell

POSITION:

Intern

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing to apply for the open evening, as recently advertised in the University of Law careers employability email. As you will see from the enclosed CV, I am currently studying the LPC which I will complete this summer.

I am particularly interested in Irwin Mitchell because of the breadth of work undertaken, from which trainees can benefit through undertaking the seats either in the Personal or Business Legal Services divisions. I am aware of the number of awards your firm has, being the winner of the best trainee recruitment campaign and shortlisted for the 2015 Excellence in Diversity & Inclusion category at the Law Society Awards.

Furthermore, your recent expansion in the business division of the law firm is particularly impressive, which Irwin Mitchell became one of the first Alternative Business Structures (ABS) and the first to receive multiple ABS licenses. Finally, I was very pleased to hear about the client-focused approach, i.e. "to look after our clients' interests positively, actively and professionally", which encourages a caring and approachable attitude among its staff.

My work experience in commercial firms, as well as my choice of electives on the LPC, demonstrates my commitment to working in the business legal services divisions practised at Irwin Mitchell. My CV also shows the innovation, focus and creative thinking attributes you expect. In my legal work I regularly volunteered for new tasks and I was assigned to assisted in the preparation of client meeting relating to a multi-million chinese yuan cross-border mergers and acquisitions transaction in Shenzhen, China. Through my placement working in an international listed company in Hong Kong I have developed excellent interpersonal and customer service skills, which have been used to good effect in my legal work, enabling me to build a positive rapport with a wide range of clients. My various exposures in the business world will equip me to be an asset to the firm.

Having the chance to join the open evening of Irwin Mitchell will enable me to make an informed choice as to whether I am a good fit for the firm. By having all the facts and first-hand knowledge of the firm is one of the best ways to gain an insight into it. I hope I could have the valuable opportunity to know the firm in terms of its culture and expectations and also for the firm getting to know me.

Thank you for taking the time to read my application and I look forward to hearing from you.

Yours Faithfully,
