Sample cover letter for Internship position at JP Morgan

POSITION:

Summer Analyst

GOT THE JOB? Yes

Dear J.P. Morgan Representative:

I am writing to express my interest in the J.P. Morgan Summer Analyst Program in Hong

Kong. I was able to learn more about J.P. Morgan through the BA Early Advantage Program

in April. I also had the chance to gain further insight into the Investment Banking Division in

particular through speaking to Steve Jia and Joyce Long during the Asia Coffee Chats and

Information Session in Chicago. After learning more about J.P. Morgan and the different

opportunities available, I am very interested in gaining exposure to and experiencing

Investment Banking at J.P. Morgan Hong Kong.

My interest in the Investment Banking Division was solidified after interning at Billow Butler

& Company, L.L.C. this summer as a M&A Investment Banking Summer Analyst. At Billow

Butler, I coordinated with the deal team to prepare valuations, acquisition target lists, buyer

lists and marketing materials. For instance, I performed valuation analyses, including

discounted cash flow, comparable trading multiples and precedent transaction methodologies

for a large daylighting manufacturer, resulting in new awareness of the industry and the

health benefits that come along with daylighting. I was also able to fully experience the

M&A process as the deals I was assigned to were at different stages of the deal time-line,

which was a very valuable learning experience. Additionally, I was able to acquire

knowledge of proper communication skills and appropriate client interaction through

observing my mentors during client meetings and conference calls.

I believe that my experience at Billow Butler provides me with the necessary skills to grow

and excel at J.P. Morgan. The back and forth communication, the high expectation level and

the imperativeness needed to execute a deal sparked my desire to continue pursuing

Investment Banking. Furthermore, the Investment Banking Division at J.P. Morgan Hong

Kong interests me, as I was able to learn more about the summer internship program during

The University of Chicago Asia Trek where we visited the J.P. Morgan office. I have also

reached out to current employees within the Investment Banking Division in Hong Kong,

such as Daniel Xiong and Irene Kwok, to gain further insight about the summer internship

program. I believe that J.P. Morgan’s rotational program for summer interns will allow me to

dive deeper into specific industries and product groups and exercise my eagerness to gain

hands on exposure.

The J.P. Morgan Summer Analyst Program will provide me with an unparalleled opportunity

to further develop knowledge about the firm and pursue my interest in Investment Banking. I

believe that my experience as a student athlete serves as a testament to my self-motivation,

strong work ethics and ability to work as a team player to achieve a common goal. I am eager

to learn and I want to be a part of the J.P. Morgan team.

Sincerely,
