Sample cover letter for Internship position at JP Morgan

POSITION:

M&A analyst

Dear Sir or Madam, As a third-year student in “Business School” Master’s in Finance program, I look forward to pursue my career in Corporate Finance field. I am writing to you as I am highly interested in a full-time position in an international M&A or Leveraged Finance team preferably based in London. I do believe that working within a top-ranking investment bank such as “Company 1” would be an ideal environment for me to make a full use of my knowledge and work experience. During my gap year, I completed a six-month internship with “Company 2” BIEN M&A Department (French MidCap and Emerging Markets) in Paris. In the course of this experience, I was highly involved in pitch preparations as well as in the execution of two transactions, one in the food sector and the other in the music/media sector (please refer to my resume). Working proficiently with the M&A team, the clients and potential acquirers allowed me to improve my technical skills and my professional attitude. Indeed, I gained strong knowledge regarding complex financial models – such as cash flows models and leveraged buy-out models – and I reinforced my stamina and my resistance to pressured environments. I could so meet the high-levelled expectations of my team. Prior to this internship, I worked for six months as a Trainee Junior Auditor at “Company 3” in Paris. Through several missions of statement of accounts audit, I significantly broadened my accounting analysis skills, as much as my efficiency and my rigour by dealing with short deadlines and taking up challenges I had to cope with. In addition to these work experiences, my academic background – “Business School’s” Master’s Degree in Finance – allows me to complete and widen my technical knowledge in Corporate and Investment Banking. I thus wish to be able to learn more in the M&A or Leveraged Finance Department at “Company 1”. A full-time position would be a real opportunity for me to gain greater involvement and increased responsibility over time in a most interesting and challenging professional environment. I am curious and willing, and I think, with my competences and dynamism, I can make a significant contribution to your company. Thank you for considering my application and I would be happy to discuss my experience and motivation at an interview. I am looking forward to hearing from you soon, Yours faithfully,
