Sample cover letter for Internship position at JP Systems

POSITION:

Web Developer

JP Systems, Inc. 7419 Kincheloe Rd Clifton, VA 20124

Dear Hiring Manager:

I am writing in response to the opening for the J P Systems Web Developer summer internship. I learned about the position through Handshake, and my skills as a computer science major make me an excellent candidate.

At Skidmore College, I have completed coursework in principles of design, data structures and analysis, program verification, and algorithm analysis. I have learned implementation of self-structured methods, greedy algorithms, dynamic programming, and amortized analysis, and have mastered basic predefined methods and interfaces. In addition, I can optimize fundamental algorithms, advanced sorting techniques, and evaluate an algorithm’s efficiency in runtime and space requirements. I have written interactive Java programs with multiple classes that incorporate inheritance and that interact with one another. Apart from Java, I have also learned Python, Perl, and Scheme. The recursive language associated with programming in Scheme has taught me a different way to approach algorithms, which has helped me immensely in my Java and Python programming. I am an articulate communicator and equally comfortable working individually and collaborating with others. I learn fast, am detail and people- oriented, and enjoy tackling hands-on problems.

I am looking to continue building upon the solid foundation of skills and knowledge I have acquired, and J P Systems’ work in IT pique my interest. I want to learn what it is like to be part of a team and experience the day-to-day lifestyle of being in a work environment doing the things I enjoy. I am studying computer science at the University of Melbourne this spring semester, which is not over until the end of June. I am available the entire months of July and August.

I would appreciate the opportunity to speak with you in person and thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely, Gabriel Snider
