Dear Hiring Manager:

I am excited to apply for the Supply Management Internship starting summer 2016. I am draw to John Deere’s well-structured and streamlined global supply chain which allows the company to provide high quality equipment and service and respond quicker to consumer demands. At a dynamic firm like John Deere, I can gain valuable hands on experience and knowledge of supply chain management. As a Master of Engineering Management student at Dartmouth College I have a comprehensive foundation in operations and engineering that would make me a good fit for John Deere’s operations. Further my lean six sigma certification along with experience in quality control, supply chain and lean manufacturing in big manufacturing firms like Mahindra and Grundfos, would make me a great addition.

I gained experience in supply chain management while working at Grundfos India when conducting the value stream mapping of their CRN pump systems. I was also given the responsibility of monitoring supplier performance and learnt how Grundfos built strategic sourcing partnerships with their local suppliers. In addition, my recent internship at Mahindra’s automotive plant in India brought my problem solving skills to the forefront. I improved the air conditioning systems (HVAC) of Mahindra’s XUV vehicle by redesigning some of its automotive parts. Through quality control processes, I initiated design and process improvements in the vehicle’s HVAC system and testing procedures. This reduced the HVAC system rework costs on the value chain by around 80%. During this stint I worked closely with the line operators, logistics personnel, manufacturing engineers and the head of the assembly line to effectively implement corrective actions in the vehicle and testing process. These internships provided valuable knowledge and experience and reinforced my desire to pursue a career that delves into supporting and improving a manufacturing firm’s operations.

While working for Global Group in one of its business development projects, I had to prepare daily reports on everyday agricultural activities. I analyzed the resource worker mix (many of which included John Deere products) assigned to these activities and ensured these practices led to the overall good health of the organisation. This allowed me to provide sound advice to the Financial Director of the project in decision making and project profitability and deliverables. This allowed me to develop strong leadership, time management and team working skills during my time at Global Group. This experience and skillset will help me adapt to the complexity of managing an efficient supply chain of John Deere.

At John Deere, I would have the opportunity to work alongside the company’s supply chain leaders and undergo a strong professional development at a dynamic and exciting workplace. I look forward to hearing from you soon and further discuss how I might contribute to John Deere’s continued success.

Sincerely,

xxxxx
