Sample cover letter for Internship position at KPMG

POSITION:

Assurance

1/20/2016

KPMG

Dear Ms. Marker:

I am currently a junior and majoring in Financial Actuarial Mathematics (plan to transfer to Mathematics and Economics) with a minor in Accounting at the University of California, Los Angeles. I would like to be considered for the Advisory Intern – IT Audit and Assurance in Los Angeles. Not only is KPMG a well-recognized leader in the business industry, but it also enjoys a great reputation. I was each time impressed by KPMG’s culture and its dedication towards its employees and clients.

My interest in accounting and finance first started last year when I had the opportunity to join the Challenge Case Competition - Assurance held by PwC and eventually got a second place. Through this experience, I developed strong communication and analytic skills by giving a presentation to PwC professionals. This event also strengthened my team working ability, creative thinking and individual initiative. It is this experience that made me decide to pursue a career related to advisory. I enjoy helping clients solving problems and making their firms better. And I applied what I have learned in school to my current job as a general public accountant in UCLA Student Media department. I prepare journal entries and accounts payable for different accounts and report them to my manager. I am also especially interested in working for KPMG because of your client commitment. The summer internship I did with China Merchants Bank enhanced my understanding of finance industry and client service. Also as an Executive Director of Public Relations in VITA, I have developed solid client-service skills since I represent VITA to communicate with clients. And I am especially interested in technology, so I have taken computer-programming classes in UCLA, which makes me fitter for this IT related internship. In terms of academic, I have excelled in basic and intermediate level accounting, economics and math courses, and feel confident in my abilities as a member of the advisory group.

Thank you for your time and consideration, I would like the opportunity to schedule an interview where I can talk more about my background, qualifications, and how I believe I can make a significant contribution to KPMG.

Sincerely,
