I am writing to express my interest in applying for the Resident Advisor for Lincoln University’s Office of Residence Life. Through my experience as a first-year international student in Lorraine Hansberry Hall, I have gained much from the programming provided by the resident advisors. I especially appreciate the friendship cultivated and willingness to always help that were common among the resident advisors in my hall. I would be honored to create this sense of community among a group of students here at Lincoln in support of your department.
In my role as the leader in my high school’s dance troupe it was my responsibility of supervising our dance practice and planning events. I displayed leadership as I was able to effectively select my co-leaders and ensure that in every practice orderliness and progress is achieved. I improved our teamwork by teaming up each team member with another to have better coordination. I gained an understanding of the collaboration necessary with external organizations to ensure the success of an event. In recruiting students, I spearheaded the events with the aim of increasing the popularity of our group and advertising what we do. Our team effort succeeded in increasing visibility of our dance troupe within the school, and ended up recruiting over 10 new students as members. I believe Resident Advisors seek create to a community atmosphere by providing programming and resources to enhance the student living experience. I hope to bring my experience as a peer leader, creative thinker, event planner, and an individual with a positive attitude to be an asset to your organization.
