Sample cover letter for Internship position at LinkedIn

POSITION:

Business Operations MBA Intern

Dear XXXX,

I would like to be considered for the position of Business Operations MBA Intern in the LinkedIn Singapore office. In this letter, I wish to elucidate how the skills I acquired, my unique background and my experiences can help create value for LinkedIn’s customers.

Over the last decade I have worked as an international journalist, covering some of the most important and exciting events in world news. I have covered the 2006 Israel-Lebanon War as a war correspondent, the global financial crisis as a global economy editor and the recent Scottish referendum as a UK correspondent. I decided to pursue an MBA at XXX in order to make a career change.

In the course of my career I have also had the opportunity to be in the development team of an Israeli business newspaper. It is now the most successful business media outlet, both in print and online. I believe that my experience in setting this business up, developing its strategy and its work processes can help me excel in the LinkedIn Internship. I would also like to note that in this role I have worked with technical staff to implement our ideas.

My undergraduate studies, which I have completed in 2013, provided me with many opportunities to solve complex and ambiguous problems. My dissertation, titled “XXX,” received the best result in the department of International Politics. The marker has commented that the dissertation was “Excellent in every possible aspect. Intriguing and ambitious in conception, the dissertation is in near publication state. Written very well, accessibly, and yet suggests deep and thorough analysis. It is the kind of dissertation that one enjoys reading and learns a lot from.”

I ask you to consider my candidacy even though I do not come from a traditional MBA background. My experience has given me a unique insight into business problems and how to solve them. This has been quite evident during my time at BUSINESS SCHOOL, both inside and outside the classroom. I will be happy to discuss how I can contribute to LinkedIn over an interview.

Sincerely,

XXX
