I am writing to express my interest in the position as a marketing and finance intern which was posted on the Africa Career Network (ACN) portal. I am a junior at Ashesi University College in Ghana pursuing a major in Business Administration. As a student pursuing a major which merges the traditional concepts business and liberal arts, I am seeking a summer internship opportunity that will enable me apply, improve and extend my knowledge in the field of marketing, public relation and finance in L’Oréal. In addition, some of Ashesi University College’s career counselors and my academic advisor highly recommended your company as a result oriented organization that foster integrity and innovation in products. I am extremely excited at the opportunity to work amongst passionate and ambitious peers and seniors who foster the spirit of teamwork to solve the toughest challenges in entrepreneurship in any available geographic location.

I developed the interest in marketing during my summer 2015 internship at Dalex Finance and Leasing Company where I was marketing and finance intern. As part of my role, I was in meetings with prospective clients to market how our fixed income loans could promote the growth and sustainability of their businesses. My time here showed me that to accurately advertise a product to a prospective client, I had to empathize in order to develop a human centered approach.

I also developed the drive to improve existing strategies and operation. As a finance intern for Dalex Finance and Leasing Company, I became involved in improving business operations. I worked on a project to develop a Cheque Confirmation system, my team had less than two weeks to roll out a new cheque confirmation toolkit that would be used by the organization with thousands of clients. There was therefore a lot of pressure to come up with the most effective strategy. I took ownership of a few work streams, which relieved the pressure on the rest of my team members to enable us to eventually meet the rollout deadline. This system was tested and proven to be efficient and sustainable.

My study abroad experience at Swarthmore College, USA has improved my communication and interpersonal relation skills. Through discussions with a diverse population of students, I have learnt to understand, appreciate differences amongst people and work together with these different people. This characteristic I believe is an important interpersonal skill needed in marketing.

My coursework and other academic and professional experience in finance and marketing has exposed and strengthened my ability to work actively across a broad range of subsectors in including: communications, media, technology, public relation and marketing while enhancing my interpersonal skills through teamwork on group projects.

I believe that my knowledge and expertise gleaned from my coursework and work experience combined with my attention to detail, organization skills, and problem solving ability have groomed me well to contribute substantially to your company.
