Sample cover letter for Full Time position at Mathematica Policy Institute

POSITION:

Statistical Assistant

Dear Hiring Professional:

I am interested in becoming a Statistical Assistant for Mathematica Policy Research. I am confident that

through my academic and professional experiences I have gained skills that would allow me to make

valuable contributions to your team.

Both in my coursework and my extra curricular pursuits I have worked extensively with data collection and

analysis. I was a Research Assistant for Professor XXX at  XXXX's Economic Department. In support of his research I compiled the first comprehensive dataset on the US states’ finances in the 1800s. I also pursued my own research project analyzing optimal trade policy following a national recession. In these roles I have spent many hours gathering, cleaning, and organizing data. I also relied heavily on Stata statistical software, Microsoft Excel, and econometric analysis to

complete these projects.

I am very interested in working for Mathematica Policy Research because Mathematica’s focus on

macroeconomic trends and public policy issues closely aligns with my experience and interests.

Mathematica is a place where I could build on my analytical, statistical, and programming skills to become

a better researcher.

After researching this opportunity on my own, I am confident that I would enjoy the nature of this work. I

look forward to further discussing how my skills and experience could be useful to Mathematica Policy

Research. Thank you in advance for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,
