POSITION:

Business analyst

GOT THE JOB? Yes

The Chief Recruitment Manager, October 17, 2012

McKinsey & Company, Inc.
Dear Madam/Sir,
I am a student of Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi. Kindly consider my application to McKinsey
& Company as a business analyst.
Consulting is definitely the direction in which I would like to pursue my career. The work at a
consulting company is intellectually quite challenging and gets to learn a lot from it. Apart from
providing us the opportunity to know about different industries, it revolves around creative problem
solving, which is quite interesting because the approach is something one becomes accustomed to
being at IIT. Also not to deny, consulting offers good pay packages, which is an important
consideration to me as well. Lastly, winning the Absolute Analytica case competition from IIT Delhi
and completing my minor degree in Business Management has made my ambition to get into
consultancy firm even stronger.
As a person, adapting under new surroundings to make the most out of every opportunity has always
been something that distinguished me from others and helped me through this journey from a small
town in Bihar via the tough life of Sainik School to one of the premier institutes of the country. This
has strengthened my ability to adapt to different environments and establish long lasting relationships
with different people. Further being developed in a theatric and artistic family, I have a great passion
for both of these cultural forms. As far as theatre is concerned, I have experienced different emotions
of life, performing different characters (being a mime, soldier, leader and even a lady) in various
student bodies at school, college, national and even professional level. Also having excelled in
creative designing and decoration using clay, oil and junk as media adds the nature of creativity to my
personality. Moreover, working on a number of team projects, and leading several teams, being
director of plays, cultural secretary and fest coordinator has inculcated in me a strong sense of team
spirit and management skills that would allow me to work and manage efficiently with different teams
while analysing any case.
There are several reasons I would prefer McKinsey & Company to any other consulting firm. First is
the core to success of the company is to deal with real matter which could help to make a gigantic
level of impact. Secondly, the kind of opportunities that McKinsey & Co. offers, for example freedom
to picture your passion, access to one of the most influential alumni network, the industries it covers
(healthcare, FMCG, pharmaceuticals, energy) and the governmental and NGO projects focussing
socio-economic problems. This would help me a lot in expanding the horizon of my knowledge and
making an impact in the outside world. Last but not the least, in the Pre-placement talk it was the only
company which did not frighten me about case solving and just asked “to be yourself has a wonderful
chance”, which I feel is necessary to be successful for me and also for satisfaction of the clients.
With my background and experience I believe I can efficiently contribute to the already rapid growth
of McKinsey & Company. I appreciate your time and consideration and hope to hear from your team
soon.
Sincerely,
Rituraj Email: rituraj.3276@gmail.com
