Sample cover letter for Internship position at McKinsey & Company

POSITION:

business analyst

Dear Recruiting Manager,

I am applying for an internship as a Business Analyst at McKinsey & Company in Oslo. Currently, I am finishing my third year on my Business and Management, Bachelor of Science degree at Queen Mary University of London. McKinsey & company’s ability to form diverse teams to tackle client problems and the path to implement solutions through problem solving is appealing to me. Hence, why applying for an internship at the company, has always been my goal. During my internship at xxxx , I was surrounded by previous McKinsey & Company employees, which allowed me an insight in to their work experience. Throughout the internship I established a close relationship to xxxxx which suggested that I would be a great fit for McKinsey & Company, based on my personal characteristics and experience.

The last two years I have evolved personally and academically, achieving a first honours degree (1:1) at the university, through hard work and continuously challenging myself. During my internship xxx  I was asked to evaluate the attractiveness of specific markets in xxx, based on distribution, consumer behaviour and estimating forecasts. Throughout this experience, my ability to research unfamiliar situations, critical analyse the information and implement solutions to the problem, strengthened my problem solving ability. Moreover, allowed me to develop my individual thinking, entrepreneurial drive and creativity while working on the task. I learned that even though one does not have all the theory, it is about seeing opportunities in challenges and thinking outside and further than the obvious.

I posses leadership skills from a variety of volunteering work as an undergraduate, such as being on the board of the Association of Norwegian Students abroad (ANSA), requested to lead a course-based mentoring scheme on a weekly basis for students struggling with modules and elected as the course representative of business and management.

I am extremely excited about the possibility to get an internship at McKinsey & Company, thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,
