Sample cover letter for Internship position at McKinsey

POSITION:

Dear Recruitment Officer,

Re: Business Analyst Intern Summer 2016

I am writing to apply for a place on the 2016 McKinsey & Company Business Analyst Summer Internship Programme. I am currently a second year Law student at University College London (UCL).

A longstanding interest in the financial markets and a desire to work in a constantly evolving industry has made a position in consulting very appealing for me. I have gained experience in PA’s ‘Global Derivative Services’ department and the progressive and problem-solving orientated nature of the work solidified my desire to enter such a dynamic workplace. The combination of analytical and legal skills developed on my Law course, coupled with my existing and growing interest in the financial markets therefore makes a position with McKinsey an exciting prospect.

While at McKinsey’s Presentation Evening on the 23th of November, I was particularly enthused to hear about the day o day life of a McKinsey Management Consultant. Having posed various questions regarding the sector-focussed and analytical nature of the work, this discussion only solidified my desire to gain further insight into the Management Consultancy division. While reading many of McKinsey’s research articles, the bank’s commitment to providing capital-raising solutions for the world’s most innovative firms has especially stood out to me. My interest in innovation and business problem solving led me to act as a Management Consultant for the pro bono consulting group First Step Consulting. This experience was highly rewarding, not only giving me an insight into the world of management consultancy but also equipping me with the skills to tackle such a position.

As President of the Law Society, I am required to lead and organise an array of people and characters. This is particularly shown by my organisation of a talent show at University, which raised over £1,100 for the charity UNICEF.

Thank you for your time. I look forward to hearing back from you.

Yours sincerely,

x
