Sample cover letter for Internship position at McKinsey

POSITION:

Business Analyst

I'm writing to explore the possibility of pursuing a business analyst's position at McKinsey. Currently, I worked for XYZ as an auditor, and am involved in an IPO program in the coming peak season.

My interest in management consulting firms has actually been piqued by my recent job. In XYZ, we understand and evaluate clients' ways of recognizing and recording their revenues, costs and expenses, which acquainted me with clients' business in a financial way. This job has cultivated my fever in business, but it will never be enough, I prefer getting involved with clients' management and strategy work.
The moment I want to find a job in consulting firms, I think of McKinsey. Although in recent years, competitors have been nipping at its heels; McKinsey remains, the most powerful and prestigious firm in the business. It offers the most sought-after jobs in the world of intellectuals. I believe it is the unrelenting work style and rigorous self-discipline values that makes McKinsey distinguishes itself from competitors, and has been sailing through the market with flying colors year after year. I have been highly attracted by the great competence of this formidable company; and want to devote myself into its work life to indulge the energy.

Working in XYZ has trained me with teamwork spirit as well as leadership. I am a self-starter, and not satisfied with merely dealing with numbers and spreadsheets. I regard myself as an important role to the entire team, and always consider how to contribute more to the team's success. When I was on job, I organized team members to discuss on how to communicate with clients, methodologies and technical skills outside office hours. The work we did together was rewarding, but it's also been great to see the relationships formed on the team last far beyond the end of each project.

Moreover, I like meeting challenges. I knew nothing about accounting before join XYZ, and I recognized more efforts were required before I could start a job. Therefore I made an intensive study schedule to get myself learned. In the past 14 month, I enrolled more than 20 classroom trainings and online courses, spent 100 hours in total to enrich my professional competence. I learned accounting theories, learned how to identify risks in specific accounts, and learned how to write emails effectively. Study helps me to excel in every job, and brought me great confidence with this career that I had never felt before.

Nowadays, I had the opportunity to apply for the business analyst position and will strive for it. I am confident that my enthusiasm in business and desire for the best are accordant with what McKinsey values and believe they make me a promising candidate to your firm.

I also enclosed my resumes and transcripts for your reference. I think in-depth interviews will strengthen your firm's understanding with me, and I'm looking forward to your reply. Thanks very much for your consideration.
