Sample cover letter for Full Time position at Mesa Laboratories

POSITION:

Laboratory Analst

Ever since I graduated last May, I have been searching for a company or organization that not is not only aligned with my goals but is also doing its part in making the world a better and safer place. With a Bachelor of Science in Biotechnology, I am ready to jump into the professional world and use what I have learned in my classes as well as my practical experience in a laboratory environment in order to do my part in helping the right company do the best work they can. It is clear that Mesa Laboratories is focused on growing the company as well as providing necessary products and services to those that need them most. These qualities in particular are what drove me to the company in the first place.

As you will see from my resume, I have extensive laboratory experience in both a Plant Pathogen Laboratory and a Molecular Biology Laboratory. During the first three years of research, I was working on Wheat Streak Mosaic Virus and the relative resistance/susceptibility to the virus of various strains of wheat. During my last year of research I focused primarily on a corrosion project funded by the Upstream Division of ExxonMobil. We were interested in elucidating the transcriptome of Desulfovibrio alaskensis, a sulfate-reducing bacteria originally found in a soured oil well. This bacteria and its biofilms are contributors to the Microbially Induced Corrosion of oil pipelines. Therefore, if we are able to find out what proteins are encoded by this bacteria, we may be able to mitigate some of the corrosion it causes, and prevent more oil spills from occurring in the future. Although my experience does not directly correlate to biological indicators, I believe that the information and strategies that I learned in these environments will allow me to flourish at Mesa Laboratories. Lab safety and aseptic techniques were paramount in both of my lab environments, and were stressed repeatedly and consistently in order to prevent injury as well as preserve valid results. I base my laboratory presence on these two ideas, which translates to a careful, precise, and efficient methodology.

I am grateful for you taking the time to read this letter, and I look forward to speaking with you in the coming weeks. If you would like any additional information, or would like to set up an interview or meeting, please do not hesitate to reach me via email or by phone. Once again, I appreciate your time, and think I would be a great fit for Mesa laboratories.
