Sample cover letter for Internship position at Morgan Stanley

POSITION:

Internship - IB Analyst

Dear Sir/Madam, 2016/2017 Investment Banking Winter Analyst (Hong Kong) I am a final year BTech student in Civil Engineering course at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Madras and would like to be considered for Investment Banking Winter Analyst Program. I am seeking an internship to pursue a career in investment banking and I feel, with my detail-oriented nature and my quantitative and technical background as an engineer, I am prepared for the highly quantitative and analytically demanding finance environment. My past summer internship with CitiCorp Services provided me with valuable experience in the area of Global Consumer Banking. The role as a summer analyst in the Consumer Operations group, which handles all the operations related to retail banking, diversified my skill set as we navigated through a challenging environment. Although my internship at Citi was not related to Investment Banking, the experience has made me comfortable working in a fast paced and stressful environment and provided me with an insight into the financial sector. Experience in working on projects during my education related to options trading, portfolio optimization and modelling the Black-Scholes formula for prediction using various statistical tools and techniques have equipped me with the necessary skills required for an Investment Banking analyst. I am also the recipient of the Investment Analyst Pro proficiency certificate awarded by the National Stock Exchange, India. Apart from this I am the Student Head in my college and have an experience of managing more than 100 people. This has helped me develop my team work skills, time management and given me valuable exposure to leadership and managing a team. These skills coupled with my passion for Finance and an insurmountable desire to learn and grow will make me a perfect fit for the winter analyst program. Morgan Stanley stands out as offering the most opportunities through its Internship Programme such as the provision of real world experience of financial analysis of a wide range of domestic and international transactions and the ability to work alongside experienced professionals on a variety of projects. I am most attracted to the culture, at Morgan Stanley, of investing in its employees, as it wants them to be the leaders of the business in the long term. Like in engineering, investment banking, in particular M&A, is another way of creating synergy i.e. the interaction of elements (companies) that when combined are greater as a whole, than individually, and this is what draws me to this field. I am excited by the prospect of finding more cost-effective, efficient and profitable ways for companies, by integrating, to operate and provide services. I hope that, on consideration of my attached CV, you will feel that I have the skills and experience to succeed on your summer analyst programme and become a valued member of Morgan Stanley. I very much look forward to hearing from you. Yours faithfully Venkata Satya Sagar Yerramilli
