Sample cover letter for Internship position at Morgan Stanley

POSITION:

Investment Banking Analyst

Ms. XY,

APAC Campus Recruitment,

Morgan Stanley

Dear Miss Garvey,

I am writing to express my interest in securing an Analyst position at Morgan Stanley in the investment banking division within the Equity and Debt Capital Markets Product Groups.

I am Master of Financial Engineering and Risk Management candidate at the XY University, specializing in Investment Management. I come from a solid quantitative background with a strong interest in corporate finance, portfolio management and project finance.

After attending your recruitment talk at XY university campus in September, I became very interested about the dynamic career opportunities and fluid business nature at the bank. I was particularly impressed with Morgan Stanley’s ability to combine its industry leadership and capabilities, supported by an outstanding network of relationships, to serve its institutional and corporate clients. I believe my academic background, business experience and product knowledge have provided me with the credentials to thrive as an Analyst.

Additionally, my conversations with Alpha, Beta and Gamma served only to strengthen my belief that Morgan Stanley would be the ideal place for me to simultaneously grasp my resilient and forward-looking spirit and confer fresh and creative thinking to make a substantial impact in a division working across multiple industries and products to find comprehensive financing solutions.

I believe my expertise in economics, accounting and computer programming along with my effective communication, business writing and research skills will enable me to gain real insight into your investment banking business and take part to big and groundbreaking deals that are transforming today’s corporate landscape.

Prior to XY University, I worked in the real estate sector, preparing deal pitches to help property developers to raise capital in the equity and debt markets and advising a conglomerate during a company and asset deal consisted in the sale of its logistics property portfolio. This experience, requiring me to synthesize a large amount of information and working under pressure, helped me to manage projects independently, be ready to assume a high level of responsibility as a member of a team and develop innovative solutions to complex problems.

Moreover, as a start-up business founder and leader of a 10 people cross functional team tasked with launching the company’s first minimum viable product in 3 months, I developed strong analytical abilities and learned a great deal about the importance of creating a team culture at all levels of the organization and understanding the advantage to work with employees from a diverse background.

Despite no prior industry knowledge, business experience, connections, aggressive deadlines and budget constraints, I led the team to successfully deliver the company’s capital raising and attained a 1.3m pounds company valuation in less than 1 year of activities.

To date, my experience as young company founder has been extremely challenging, demanding and productive. However, it is through investment banking that I can leverage my entrepreneurial and risk-taking aptitude, sociable and outgoing personality, management and creative problem solving skills to their fullest. I strongly believe that investment banking is an industry that will engage into a deep understanding of many industries and demand me to view problems from the client and also marketplace’s standpoint, forcing to act according to efficiency, time management and prioritization and, above all, think out of the box.

In addition, during my postgraduate education, I have focused on expanding my community network – a critical success factor for investment banking: I joined the XY university Entrepreneurship Center and founded the XY university Financial Engineering Society. These accomplishments, along with my fast-learning aptitude and genuine interest in learning how companies raise capital to fund their growth and how the deal is usually going to be priced will enable me to significantly contribute in a group committed in advising and executing complex financing deals.

I would welcome the opportunity to interview with you and eager to provide referrals to support my application.

I look forward to meeting you soon and want to thank you in advance for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,

NS

XY university, Postgraduate Student
