Sample cover letter for Internship position at Morgan Stanley

POSITION:

Industrial Placement Internship for Institutional Equity and Prime Brokerage

Dear Hiring Manager,

Re: Application for Industrial Placement Internship for Institutional Equity and Prime Brokerage

I am writing to apply for the subjected placement internship at Morgan Stanley. I am a penultimate year student at the University of Hong Kong, currently expecting a LLB degree after having had obtained the Bachelor of Business Administration (2:1) from the same university.

I have multiple relevant internship and part-time experiences; combining which I see the big picture of the industry. Having had the experience as a part-time assistant and summer intern in the asset management firm for nearly two years, I had the exposure to various mutual fund products and also the position of the buy-side in the market. This summer, I interned in XXX on the sell side and its parent group XXX, I understood the importance of research and how it leads to profit. Interning from a legal and compliance perspective gave me a broad set of transferrable skills and experience, along with a strong understanding in regulatory requirements. For example, I learnt from reviewing pitchbooks that the company should not represent or imply that the company would produce a positive research report about the client, or a mutual fund salesperson cannot hint the client about a guaranteed profit from doing telephone monitoring review. My experiences give me a good sense of ethics in doing the business.

I am able to work well under pressure; in the first two years of university, I was able to manage at the same time having a part-time job, being the vice-chairperson of a student society and producing good school grades. Also, I have strong analytical skills, trained from my legal education and work experiences which required me to select useful information efficiently and disseminating ideas effectively.

My motivation is the desire to work in a fast-paced, forward-looking and challenging environment where I can develop my career with good compensation and growth opportunities. This might also explain why I apply to this internship with my legal education background. I find Morgan Stanley the ideal place which matches well with my ambitions, I am also attracted by its commitment to develop their professionals and openness to diversity.

I really look forward to hearing from you. I am available for an interview and contactable by XXXX.

Best Regards,

XXX
