Sample cover letter for Internship position at NBA

POSITION:

Summer Internship Program

October 14th, 2016

National Basketball Association

645 5th Avenue

New York, NY 10022

Dear Hiring Professional,

I am writing to express my interest in working with the NBA as part of the Summer Internship Program in 2017. I am currently a third year Business student specializing in Accounting and minoring in Business Analytics at The Ohio State University. As my enclosed resume shows, I have had many enriching experiences throughout my college years that have given me skills which will assuredly prove useful in a position with the NBA.

Though I may not have any direct experience working within the sports industry, my experience with Students Consulting for Non-Profit Organizations (SCNO) has provided me with many insights that can be applied to working effectively on a team within any organization. I joined SCNO at the beginning of my sophomore year after deciding to switch my major from Electrical Engineering to Accounting, am now in the midst of my third project cycle and being considered for the position of Vice President of Finance.

Aside from my passion for the game of basketball, the aspect that draws me towards the NBA the most is the potential for the implementation of data. During my time at Ohio State I have realized my interest in Data Analytics, specifically Data Visualization. The sheer amounts of data produced from just one basketball game is staggering and can be used to provide countless insights on performances, forecasts and predictions for each team. Although Analytics is not an intern placement option, I would love the opportunity to be able to work with any professionals in this space, in addition to any intern placement I might be assigned.

I have been focused on working for the NBA since my freshman year in college when I first learned about this program through my own research. I would love the chance to discuss my qualifications and any other questions that you may have. I can be contacted at xxxxxxx or through email at xxxxxxxxxx. Thank you and I hope to hear from you soon.

Best Regards,
xxxxxx
