Sample cover letter for Internship position at NFL Network

POSITION:

Publicity Internship

Dear Hiring Manager,

I hope you read this without concluding I am arrogant, but rather confident. Confident that when you finish reading this cover letter, you will delete all other applications, shred other resumes, and aggressively fire all of your other current interns even though you have an open position for a new one. On the formal side, I am currently a senior at California State University Northridge, studying Journalism with an emphasis in Public Relations. I have gained an enriching education from my classes in a broad spectrum of ways including graphic design, social media utilization, confident and strong public speaking and presentation abilities, versatile forms of writing including news, persuasive, creative, and blogging.

On the informal side, the education that arguably means more to me is the one I received from my fraternity and experience in the workforce. As a freshman at CSUN, I realized how similar I was to my regular peers and felt I needed to away the comfort zone I was so comfortably encased in. I joined Zeta Beta Tau fraternity and I was forced to interact with a demographic of students that truly feel they are above the rest. As an immediate impact member, I began to take positions of leadership where I can make a difference and help improve the image of the (at the time) low reputation fraternity. By managing social media accounts and implementing techniques of branding and professionalism as PR chairman, and being elected Vice President of Recruitment for 2015, we have become a top fraternity on campus. My experience working in a restaurant throughout high school and university has given me skills with interacting with people in professional environment and gave me a familiarity with customer satisfaction and all the measures needed to satisfy even the most un-satisfied customers.

What sets me apart from the other applications you are receiving is that I am not oatmeal. I am not bland and unappetizing. I am not a complimentary part of your meal who needs to be showered with fruits or brown sugar to taste good. I am a candidate that you can rely on to complete any task and solve any problem without being babied along the way. I would bring my skills and experience and be an instant impact player, with a youthful and fresh perspective on public relations from a student who didn’t just do well in classes but also put those skills to use in my fraternity.

Thank you graciously for your time.
